UWI St. Augustine has reinforced its No Thoroughfare Zone measures, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance campus safety.
Among them are restrictions on vehicular access to the campus.
It says effective immediately, vehicular access to the campus will be as follows:
- Authorised Vehicles: Only vehicles displaying valid 2025/2026 UWI vehicle permits will be allowed entry via the North Gate entrance (adjacent to Republic Bank) or the South Gate entrance (closest to Churchill Roosevelt Highway).
- Unauthorised Vehicles: Vehicles without the current permits will be redirected to the Visitor’s Entrance (The Daaga Gate on St. Augustine Circular Road, opposite Freedom Hall), where stringent security screening will be conducted. Entry through this gate will be allowed Monday to Friday from 7am to 9:30am.
Also, to facilitate safe movement, UWI says a one-way traffic system will be in effect on the section of Lewis Avenue between the Daaga Gate and the northern junction with Wooding Drive (opposite the tennis courts) – from Monday to Friday between 7am to 9:30am, traffic will flow east to west.
The University is encouraging all staff, students, and visitors to familiarise themselves with these regulations and plan their travel accordingly.
