The US Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments on whether some children born in the US have a constitutional right to citizenship.
It stems from an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on his first day back in office, which sought to end automatic US citizenship for babies born in the US to parents who are in the country illegally or temporarily.
Opponents say the order violates the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment, which says that “all persons born or naturalised in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States”
The start of the hearing was attended by President Donald Trump who has since left the court.
