UNC councillors walked out of a statuary meeting of the Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation on Thursday alleging they have been persistently disrespected by PNM members.
Guardian Media reported that five UNC councillors and two aldermen reportedly walked out 25 minutes into the meeting, halting proceedings.
They said they have been attacked about the country’s rate of unemployment, and other national issues that are related to central government
The meeting later resumed with only PNM members present.
Corporation chairman Josiah Austin later described the walkout as “unfortunate” and pointed to deeper tensions in local government.
