Over 100 United States military personnel have left Tobago on Monday morning, departing from A. N. R. Robinson International Airport just before 8 am.

The troops were stationed on the island since last November under a security cooperation arrangement with United States.

Their departure follows the recent dismantling of the controversial US military‑grade radar system, which was removed earlier this month.

Tobago officials had signalled the imminent departure last week but declined to give a specific date, noting the sensitive nature of homeland security arrangements.

Defence Minister Wayne Sturge thanked the US for its support, while local Opposition leaders in Tobago welcomed the troop withdrawal and questioned the government’s handling of the radar project and national safety concerns.
