The TTPS says a document purporting to be an email from the Police Commissioner is fake.
The email alleges that the recipient is under investigation for various cybercrime and criminal offences by local and international security agencies.
It further instructs recipients to report to the Police Headquarters or the Cyber Crime Unit within 24 hours or face immediate arrest.
The TTPS says at no time does it issue notices of investigation, arrest, or requests for appearance via unsolicited email.
Instead, it says the message is a scam designed to intimidate and deceive recipients and is advising persons to:
- Disregard and delete any such email immediately
- Do not respond, click on links, or download attachments
- Do not provide personal or financial information under any circumstances.
