The TTPS says new laws governing the use of fireworks are now in effect and is warning the public to comply, as breaches of the law will be met with firm action.
While warnings may be issued in some cases, the Service notes that a warning does not rule out prosecution.
Police say they will maintain heightened, intelligence-led patrols to ensure compliance, and all reported offences will be investigated.
Under the new law, a police permit is now required to use fireworks, except during limited approved times.
For instance, it is allowed 0n December 31 from 11:30 pm to 12:30 am on New Year’s Day, though certain areas are restricted.
