A serving police officer has been placed under preventive detention for allegedly supplying operational intelligence to organised crime groups, raising fears of imminent gang attacks with high-powered firearms.
The Trinidad Guardian reports that the officer is among 11 people detained under the Emergency Powers Regulations during the ongoing State of Emergency, targeting those assessed as threats to public safety.
Deputy Commissioner Suzette Martin called the allegations “especially serious,” emphasizing the TTPS’s commitment to integrity and public safety.
Other detainees include gang leaders and associates involved in shootings, narcotics, and smuggling firearms into prisons.
Also detained is 16-year-old Jaylon George, the first minor held under the SoE. Authorities continue intelligence-led operations to prevent retaliation and ensure community safety.
