A police officer from the TTPS Anti-Extortion Unit was arrested on December 10th along the Caroni River, hours before a major $171 million marijuana bust in the nearby Caroni Swamp.
Newsday reported that the officer, who did not have his firearm license or police ID at the time of his arrest, and another man face firearms-related charges, including possession of unauthorized weapons and ammunition.
Police clarified that no arrests were made in connection with the drug bust.
The officer is expected to appear in court on December 17th and has been granted station bail following a recent High Court ruling.
