Trinidad and Tobago has been officially removed from the European Union’s list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions.

The EU decision, made on February 17, follows years of reforms to align with international tax standards.

Finance Minister Tancoo welcomed the move, saying it reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and global cooperation.

EU Ambassador Cécile Tassin praised T&T’s progress, noting it strengthens confidence in the country’s financial and regulatory frameworks.

The reforms included replacing the Free Trade Zone regime, improving tax transparency, and meeting global standards for exchange of financial information and corporate reporting.

The PNM however is claiming credit.

In a statement, it says the work that put T&T on the path to getting off the list was done under the previous government before last year’s election.

According to the party, there were five “delisting criteria” which led the then Government to take certain measures, incuding the passing of key pieces of legislation.
