The T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce is raising concerns over the impact of rising customs fees, particularly on micro, small, and medium-sized businesses.
Starting tomorrow, both customs declaration and container examination fees will double.
The Chamber said these increases could place a significant strain on businesses already operating with tight margins, potentially leading to higher consumer prices and added inflationary pressure on the economy.
While recognizing the Government’s need for revenue, the Chamber stressed that such fee hikes must be paired with improvements in efficiency, such as faster processing times and digital systems.
The Chamber is calling for a review of these changes to ensure they do not harm businesses or escalate costs for consumers.
