Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Nicholas Morris, has called for more effective measures to combat transnational crime.

Speaking at the IV CELAC-EU Summit in Santa Marta, Colombia, Morris highlighted the significant impact organized crime has had on Trinidad and Tobago over the past two decades.

He stressed that transnational crime not only threatens peace—a fundamental asset—but also exacerbates the vulnerabilities of small island developing states, including those linked to climate change and economic shocks.

Morris engaged in discussions with government representatives from the European Union, Latin America, and the Caribbean, urging stronger regional collaboration to address these challenges.

Trinidad and Tobago continues to advocate for coordinated international action to safeguard security, economic stability, and sustainable development in the region.
