A policeman with Trinidad roots has been promoted to Superintendent with the York Regional Police in Canada.

Kolin Sylvester, the son of the parang queen of Toronto (Joan Walcott-Alexander), is now the highest-ranking black officer in history.

Alexander, who is also a popular deejay in Toronto’s carnival scene (DJ Soca Vibes), says he has received a lot of love and support from the community.

“People still see me as someone they can approach and talk to. That kind of trust is humbling,” Alexander told The Caribbean Camera.
