This March 8, Trinidad and Tobago joins the world in celebrating International Women’s Day, marking over a century of the fight for women’s rights and equality.
From early struggles for voting rights and fair labor conditions, to the establishment of the Equal Opportunity Act in 2001, women in Trinidad and Tobago have made historic strides.
The Equal Opportunity Tribunal continues to safeguard rights, honoring trailblazers like Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, former President Paula-Mae Weekes, and Justice Maureen Rajnauth-Lee.
This year, the United Nations theme, “Right. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” is complemented locally by the “Give to Gain” campaign, highlighting the power of generosity to create opportunities.
On this International Women’s Day 2026, the message is clear: celebrate the pioneers, strengthen the law, and champion women’s leadership.
