Culture Minister Michelle Benjamin has paid tribute to the late Darwren “Pharaoh” Greenidge.

Mr Greenidge was a calypsonian, as well as a trustee and member of the Central Executive of Pan Trinbago.

He passed away yesterday at the age of 55.

In her tribute, Ms Benjamin hailed him as “an outstanding cultural stalwart whose artistry and service enriched Trinidad and Tobago’s national heritage.”

“Mr. Greenidge was a gifted and passionate cultural practitioner whose journey through the national arts sector reflected both versatility and commitment. Beginning as an ardent pannist before rising as a respected calypsonian, “Pharaoh” represented the very best of our cultural spirit,” she added.

Also paying tribute was Pan Trinbago, which described Mr Greenidge as “A vibrant, fun-loving, and charismatic leader” who made major and lasting contributions to the steelband fraternity.

It also points to his dedication to service as a retired Prison Officer and Captain of the Prison Service Steel Orchestra, saying it reflected “his commitment to discipline, mentorship, and nation-building through music.”
