The valedictorian of the Faculties of Science and Technology, and Food and Agriculture has called on this year’s graduate to keep driving change in a society that does not allow equal opportunity for all to succeed.

Joseph Anthony Paty said earlier today that many young people never get the opportunity to attain higher education because of a failing society.

“We remember Jayden Lalchan, Mariah Seenath, Akiel Chambers, Samantha Chadee, Jomol Modeste and so many other young persons who will never get the opportunity to cross this stage as we did today, all because of a failing societal system,” he said.

Paty called on is fellow graduates to transform their industries with bold ideas.

“Let us not be afraid to question the norm, let us continue to adapt, excel and transform our industries with bold ideas, let us celebrate being creative in our self-expression but most importantly, let us keep driving to change a society that does not allow equal opportunity for all to succeed,” he said.

Mr Paty spoke at the UWI St Augustine Campus 2025 Graduation Ceremony for the Faculty of Science & Technology as well as the Faculty of Food & Agriculture.
