Three-time Chutney Soca Monarch champion KI Persad has withdrawn from this year’s Grand Finals due to health concerns.
Masala Entertainment announced on Thursday that Persad fainted after his semi-final performance at Flava Village on January 30.
He was rushed to hospital and later cleared by doctors. The incident was initially thought to be caused by dehydration.
Persad returned to Canada, where medical advice now requires him to rest for at least two weeks, preventing his return to Trinidad in time for the finals.
The 2026 Chutney Soca Monarch Grand Finals will go ahead on Sunday, February 8, from 5 p.m. to midnight at Skinner Park, San Fernando.
Fourteen artistes will compete for the Chutney Soca Monarch, Queen of Chutney Soca, and Traditional Monarch titles.
A pre-show from 5 to 7 p.m. will feature live bands, DJs, and Maxsonic giveaways.
Among the performers are Nurizza, Shiva Lakhan, Stargram & Oscar B, Mau Bros, Wackerman, Master Saleem, Rasika Dindial, Adesh Samaroo, Daddy Chinee, Machel Montano, Ari, Savita Singh, Mr D.G., and Lady Lava.
