The Tobago House of Assembly the export license for Studley Park Enterprises Ltd will create the opportunity to market its aggregate regionally and internationally.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar presented the export license to THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine on Tuesday.
Anslem Richards, THA chief technical advisor, told TTT News THA can now expand the operations of the quarry, and it created sustainable jobs.
He said the quarry produces some of the best granite in the hemisphere, the unique qualities of which makes it suitable for use on airport runways.
Richards said the THA had some work to do to improve the functioning of the facility.
Meanwhile, former Energy Minister Stuart Young however has dismissed the move as a “Sham” and “gimmickry.”
He agreed that the aggregate from Studley Park is world-class, but contends it cannot satisfy local construction needs, much less be sold internationally and create foreign exchange.
Speaking at a PNM media conference on Thursday, Mr Young said the government and the THA is “misleading the people” on the issue.
