A tragic workplace accident occurred yesterday in Marabella, leaving a 19-year-old Venezuelan national dead.

Jose Gregory Herrera of St Julien Village, Princes Town, was working with a Moruga contractor at Tropical Plaza along the Southern Main Road when he attempted to unplug a Hilti jackhammer from an extension cord.

Witnesses report that he collapsed and fell on his back, semi-conscious.

Herrera was rushed to the Southern Medical Clinic but was pronounced dead around 5:28pm.

Authorities say an autopsy will be conducted at the Forensic Science Centre, and Cpl Ramdath continues investigations into the incident.
