Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo says the economy inherited by the government contracted by 20% under the previous PNM administration.
The Finance Minister was responding to the Trinidad Express after they reported that small businesses like Bick’s Auto, Kristina’s Shoes, Undercover Garden Center, and Soapmakers Paradise had announced closures or clearance sales.
Mr Tancoo said the PNM’s polices are to blame for the ongoing business closures and urged patience, stressing that efforts are underway to restore growth and support struggling business owners.
Meanwhile, PNM MP Stuart Young says the UNC has hurt the economy, which is contracting under the Kamla Persad-Bissessar administration.
