A male suspect is now in custody following a fatal stabbing in San Fernando on Saturday.

Around 2:30am, officers responded to a report of a man lying motionless on the compound of the National Insurance Board at Cross Crossing in San Fernando.

On arrival, they found the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hours later, officers on mobile patrol in San Fernando received information that took them to the Pavilion area of Skinner Park.

There, they observed and detained a man with an injury to his right hand.

The suspect, believed to be of Hispanic descent, was found in possession of the following items:

A white vest with what appeared to be bloodstains

A blue ¾ jeans pants

A black plastic bag containing personal documents

A small black-handled flick knife with a silver blade

The TTPS says investigations subsequently revealed that the suspect was involved in a physical altercation with the deceased earlier that morning on the NIB compound.
