Seven new judges have been appointed to the Supreme Court by President Christine Kangaloo.
The instruments of appointment were administered this morning at the President’s House.
The appointees, who will serve in the High Court, are Sabrina Dougdeen Jaglal, Rehanna Hosein, Hasine Shaikh, Sherlanne Pierre, Wendy Ali, Nirad Samnadda-Ramrekersingh, and Adia Mohammed.
Speaking with 103.1FM News following the ceremony, Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh described the appointments as both timely and necessary.
He confirmed that three judges have been assigned to the Criminal Division, three to the Civil Division, and one to the Children’s Court.
The Supreme Court of Judicature of Trinidad and Tobago is made up of The Court of Appeal and the High Court, according to Section 99 of the Constitution.
