President of the NAAA, Ephraim Serrette, believes this country’s team can surpass last year’s 25-medal haul at the upcoming CARIFTA Games in St George’s.

The 73-member squad wrapped up final preparations at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and departs for Grenada on Thursday.

Serrette says early relay success could set the tone, with potential for up to nine medals, adding that the team’s overall target could reach 30.

He credits higher qualifying standards and strong preparation for raising performance levels ahead of the regional championships.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Athletics Administrators of Trinidad and Tobago has confirmed that promising sprinter Giovanni Bobb-Semple has withdrawn from the 2026 CARIFTA Games.

The decision follows consultations with the team doctor and his personal physiotherapist, and Bobb-Semple and his parents have opted to prioritize his health and long-term development.

In a statement, the Association says it fully supports the move, noting that the athlete’s recovery and well-being remain the top priority.

They also extended best wishes to Bobb-Semple for a full and speedy recovery.
