Despite being banned from export, copper is still being shipped out of Trinidad and Tobago under the radar.

That’s according to the Scrap Iron Dealers Association, which has requested an urgent meeting with the Police Commissioner to deal with the matter.

It’s president, Allan Ferguson says they want to discuss the issue of theft that continues to plague the scrap iron industry.

He believes as police can help, as they have the authority to enter any scrap yard to inspect material stock and verify compliance with the Scrap Metal Act of 2022.

Mr. Ferguson says they received the information about the illegal copper exports from reliable sources.
