Shell is reportedly in advanced talks with Venezuela to develop major offshore gas fields near Trinidad and Tobago, a move that could significantly boost regional gas supply.

According to Reuters, the project could open up to 20 trillion cubic feet of gas, including the long-delayed Dragon field.

Shell is expected to send the gas to be processed in at the Atlantic LNG facility in T&T, helping to ease current shortages and increase export capacity.

The company is also reportedly targeting cross-border reserves linked to Trinidad’s Manatee project, with a final investment decision on Dragon possible by the end of this year.

In March, preliminary deals were reportedly signed by Shell, in Caracas to advance the Dragon project and potentially develop the Carito and Pirital fields.

Up to newstime, there has been no official comment from Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal or the Ministry of Energy.
