The Ministry of Education has noted with concern the recent reports of disruptive behaviour among students at the Barataria North Secondary School.

The Ministry wishes to assure the public that it takes all matters related to student safety and discipline seriously and has engaged officials of the Division of School Supervision, Student Support Services Division (SSSD), along with the School Health, Safety, and Security Unit.

While the Ministry continues to verify the details of these reports, proactive measures have already been implemented to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.

These include increased collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the deployment of additional School Health, Safety, and Security Officers, and ongoing counselling and mediation interventions through the SSSD.

In addition, Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education, has confirmed that arrangements have been made for extra police patrols to be conducted at several priority schools beginning tomorrow.

These measures are intended to strengthen safety and reassure the school communities that student welfare remains the Ministry’s highest priority.

The Ministry acknowledges that issues of student conflict require not only disciplinary action but also a whole-of-community approach.

To this end, the Ministry continues to work with parents, community stakeholders, and law enforcement to strengthen behavioural support systems and promote positive student engagement.

The Ministry encourages the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and assures that any confirmed developments will be communicated through official channels.
