The City of Port-of-Spain says its newly re-launched parking enforcement effort was a success.
The Corporation reintroduced wrecking of vehicles on Monday to deal with the problem of indiscriminate parking in the capital city.
Port of Spain Mayor Chinua Alleyne said on Tuesday that reducing traffic congestion in the city is an important part of increasing the number of shoppers that come downtown.
“This parking enforcement effort is a collaboration between the TTPS POS Division and the City and is based on the several complaints that we have received,” Mayor Alleyne said
“Often times, buses and emergency vehicles have difficulty traversing the city centre and many of our taxi stands have turned into parking lots. Reducing traffic congestion in the City is an important part of increasing the number of shoppers that come Downtown and stimulating economic activity,” he added.
The City thanked motorists for their support and encouraged all drivers to maintain adherence to traffic laws.
