Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has given the regional team a “passing grade” for their performance at the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Pollard made the comment after the launch of the Youth Hardball Community Cricket Launch on Tuesday morning at The National Racquet Center in Tacarigua.

“For me, I will give them a passing grade. I think they did pretty well,” he said.

“Leading up into the World Cup we would have lost a couple of series and guys would not have been confident. I thought they carried about themselves well,” the former West Indies player added.

West Indies won the first four games, including wins against England and Sri Lanka, before losing to South Africa and India in the Super Eights stage to crash out of the tournament.

Pollard said the team competed well throughout the tournament.

“You can argue the point that when we met the full nations, per se, we didn’t win. But when you look at it, when you are playing India in India and you score 190+, I think they did have a fighting chance,” he said.

“They played against South Africa, they struggled but the determination was there where they put up a sizeable total.”

As for the future, Pollard said the team’s performance augurs well for the future.

“I think it is something that we can work with; we just need to continue the development. Again, when you look around, this is the cream of the crop that we have in the Caribbean,” he said.

“If we want, we can go on the negative and we can go on the knee-jerk actions and all sort of different things. In order for success to happen, we need to come together a bit more and carry that positive vibe and energy, if we want to win and want to win World Cups—we have done it before.”

Pollard played 123 ODIs and 101 T20Is for the West Indies between 2007 and 2022, wining the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016.
