The Peoples National Movement has denied that the party has had any links with slain businessman Danny Guerra.
Mr Guerra, a businessman, quarry operator and real estate contractor, was shot and killed outside his office on Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande on March 13.
Opposition Chief Whip Marvin Gonzales told reporters on Wednesday that there is no evidence of any link between the PNM and Mr Guerra.
He alleged that there was evidence that Mr Guerra was involved with the ruling United National Congress (UNC) during the 2025 General Election campaign.
Mr Gonzales called on the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) to investigate alleged links between Mr Guerra and the Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge.
He said that citizens should be concerned that Mr Sturge has access to sensitive information and holds a seat on the National Security Council.
Mr Gonzales, who has called for Mr Sturge to resign as a government minister, says the situation raises serious questions about national security.
He said the current State of Emergency is about “self-preservation” and has nothing to do with the fight against crime.
In November 2025, under State of Emergency provisions, Guerra and his son were detained by the Special Investigations Unit amid allegations that he led an organised group involved in illegal activities including arms trafficking, money laundering, and unlicensed quarrying.
Authorities also reportedly linked him to a supposed threat against a government minister at the time—an allegation that was denied by those close to him.
He was released on bail in early 2026.
