Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says stronger action may be needed to address rising indiscipline in schools.
Speaking after Education Minister Michael Dowlath reported that classroom incidents increased from 401 to 544, Mrs Persad-Bissessar said students who repeatedly misbehave could face expulsion.
She also revealed Government is preparing legislation to hold parents legally and financially accountable if their children are involved in bullying or violence at school.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar urged parents to take greater responsibility and warned that students who waste their educational opportunities could face a difficult future with limited job prospects.
