Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says her government may consider legislation to regulate social media use for children under the age of 12.
The Prime Minister was responding to comments by Archbishop Jason Gordon, who raised concerns about protecting children from the dangers of social media.
According to Newsday, she said those concerns are valid, but said any ban on adults would amount to an encroachment on free speech.
The Prime Minister added that while regulation may be necessary to protect private citizens from abuse and bullying online, public officials, such as herself, do not require such protections.
