PM leaves today for UN General Assembly

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will leave today for the UN General Assembly in New York City,

While there, she is expected to address the Assembly at 5PM on Friday and meet with US and CARICOM officials in the coming days.

Accompanying the Prime Minister will be Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath and Legal Affairs Minister Saddam Hosein.

They will join Foreign Affairs Minister Sean Sobers and Parliamentary Secretary Nicholas Morris, who have been at the Assembly since Monday.

Works Minister Jearlean John will be acting Prime Minister during Mrs Persad-Bissessar’s six-day absence.
 
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles-Robinson will also be in attendance at the Assembly.

She is expected to participate in high-level meetings and events taking place on the margins.

A PNM statement indicated Mrs Beckles-Robinson has been invited to contribute to discussions on matters of international concern.
