Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says citizens “have no need to be bothered” following the events in Venezuela, as T&T is not involved.
In a statement via X last evening, she says the country continues to function as normal, and was looking forward to renewed cooperation with the people of Venezuela.
On the Dragon Gas project, the Prime Minister says the resource belongs to the Venezuelan people and that any decision regarding its future rests with a democratically elected Venezuelan government.
She also emphasizes that T&T does not long for Venezuelan property and will focus on developing its own resources.
On the US indictment of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the Prime Minister says she is not surprised by reports implicating Caribbean politicians.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Sean Sobers says T&T remains firmly committed to US efforts to dismantle transnational crime across the Americas.
The statement came as he addressed his CARICOM counterparts during a virtual meeting of CELAC Foreign Ministers yesterday.
Mr. Sobers said T&T continues to maintain a constructive and respectful relationship with both the US and Venezuela.
