Debate is set to begin in Parliament today on the use of armed police officers in schools.
The Private Motion moved by former Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby Dolly is calling on government to clearly outline its policy on the matter.
In response to rising school violence, government deployed Special Reserve Police officers and community police to over 50 high-risk secondary schools in September 2025.
The teachers union, TTUTA, and the National Parent Teachers Association initially rejected the idea of armed police officers in schools.
The House of Representatives meets at 1:30pm.
