Disaster management officials met yesterday with the Local Government Minister to evaluate recent flood responses, assess readiness, and identify operational needs and logistical challenges.
Minister Khadijah Ameen says she wanted to hear directly from them on what has worked so far, what didn’t and what needs to be done better.
One of the objectives was to improve the time in which assessments are done after a disaster.
A mobile app will also be used by disaster units to assess damage to homes, furniture, appliances etc, and this data is then shared in real-time with the Ministry of Social Development.
And, corporations are being instructed to train additional staff and volunteers, to assist in assessment.
