The Government has declined to answer two urgent questions put forward by the Opposition in today’s Lower House sitting.

In the first instance, Finance Minister Dave Tancoo was asked about the termination of Dr. Alvin Hilaire as Central Bank Governor.

He responded by invoking Standing Order 27(1G) that says a Minister may decline to reply if the publication of the answer would be contrary to public interest.

The question was posed by former Finance Minister Colm Imbert, which asked for reasons for the dismissal.

A release from the Finance Ministry, earlier this week, said further information of the termination would be provided in the coming days.

The second question was posed by Opposition Chief Whip Marvin Gonzales to Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath regarding termination of nine WASA executive officers.

Mr Padarath invoked the same standing order.
