The National Trade Union Centre, NATUC, has condemned what it calls the “normalisation of police brutality”.

This follows the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Joshua Samaroo during a high-speed chase in St. Augustine, which also left his common-law wife paralysed last week.

NATUC said the decision by Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro not to suspend the officers involved, undermines public confidence and threatens democratic accountability.

The Union is calling for the immediate suspension of the officers, independent oversight of the investigation, and clear adherence to due process, emphasizing that justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done.
