A monkey caught in Port of Spain this morning is not from the Emperor Valley Zoo.

In a statement, it says two zookeepers were dispatched after it received calls that the animal was seen roaming the area.

It was eventually retrieved in the carpark of a building located on Sweet Briar Road.

In a statement, the Zoo says a collar was placed as a belt around the animal’s waist and has since been removed.

It adds, “This collar can be clearly identified by the owner of the animal. Please note the Zoo does not place collars or belts on animals. The owner of this monkey is unknown to Zoo officials.”

It also called on the owner to come forward saying they will be able to claim the animal, “providing that they have a current permit for the animal issued by the Forestry Division.”
