Over 22,000 suspensions were recorded nationwide between 2022 and 2025, resulting in significant loss of teaching time.
However, Education Minister Dr. Michael Dowlath says the revised National School Code of Conduct places the protection of instructional time at its core.
It will also extend beyond the physical classroom into digital spaces.
Dr Dowlath also outlined the structure of the revised code.
The Minister said while suspensions have declined under the School-Oriented Policing initiative, incidents occurring during class time have increased, making classroom management a central focus of the reform agenda.
