The Local Government Ministry is calling for energy facilities to be prepared for bushfires.
T&T is currently experiencing the peak of the dry season, which means an increased risk of bushfires.
As such, the Ministry says all energy facilities operating within the boundaries of the 14 Municipal Corporations should take immediate measures to safeguard their infrastructure, personnel, and the surrounding environment from potential hazards.
Facilities are being encouraged to:
- Establish fire trails around facilities to create effective buffer zones.
- Clear dry vegetation and combustible debris in and around operational areas.
- Ensure fire suppression systems are fully operational, properly maintained, and readily
accessible. - Review and update emergency response plans to ensure they are current and aligned with
potential bushfire scenarios. - Conduct drills and staff awareness sessions to strengthen preparedness and response
capabilities.
