Lizard River Bridge upgrade

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure says it is applying advanced carbon-fibre technology to bridge infrastructure in Trinidad and Tobago for the first time.

The Ministry said it is collaborating with Shell Trinidad and Tobago to apply the cutting-edge technology to the Lizard River Bridge in Guayaguayare.

It says the application of the carbon fibre overlay represents a major step forward in strengthening the bridge.

“The carbon fibre overlay is coming together nicely, marking a major step forward in strengthening the bridge. Before this phase, our teams repaired damaged beam sections and added shear reinforcement to help the structure better handle stress and heavier loads,” the Ministry stated in a media release.

The Ministry said the Lizard River Bridge is 60% complete and will be stronger, and more durable.
