The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) has dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging delays in the payment of social assistance grants for January 2026.
In a statement, the Ministry described the claims as factually incorrect and confirmed that payments for Senior Citizens Pensions, Public Assistance, and Disability Grants were processed and dispatched in keeping with established payment schedules.
According to the Ministry, cheques for all applicable grants and pensions for January 2026 were issued on time, and beneficiaries had access to their funds from January 1, 2026, in line with normal operational timelines. The Ministry emphasized that at no point were payments outstanding beyond the scheduled period, nor were beneficiaries deprived of their entitled assistance, as suggested by the online reports.
The MPSDFS warned that the spread of inaccurate information can cause unnecessary distress and confusion, particularly among vulnerable individuals who depend on these grants and services for their daily needs.
Reaffirming its commitment to putting people first, the Ministry said it remains fully dedicated to the timely delivery of social assistance grants and programmes, as well as to safeguarding the dignity, well-being, and best interests of its clients.
Members of the public are being encouraged to verify information through official Ministry channels and to exercise caution when sharing unverified claims on social media.
