Different members of the Government and UNC have rallied around Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar following her speech at the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting.
During the contribution last evening, Mrs Persad-Bissessar accused CARICOM of failing to act when threats were levelled by Venezuela against T&T and Guyana last year.
She also defended her support for the current US administration and criticized the regime in Cuba.
Criticism soon followed, with Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles referring to the speech as being “inflammatory, reckless, and wholly unbecoming” of the Prime Minister’s office.
Among those that have since issued statements of support are Leader of Government Business Barry Padarath, Foreign Affairs Minister Sean Sobers, Defence Minister Wayne Sturge, Land and Legal Affairs Minister Saddam Hosein, Health Minister Dr Lackram Bodoe, Labour Minister Leroy Baptiste, and the UNC Women’s Arm.
Also commenting was Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen.
