Minister of the People, Vandana Mohit, is renewing her call for the Children’s Authority Board to go.

In a statement issued today, she pointed to the stabbing of a 15-year-old boy at the National Care and Empowerment Centre in Piparo.

The Minister believes the standard was not met as it relates to accountability, urgency and openness.

She also questioned what alternative security measures were implemented to prevent weapons from entering the facilities, and why basic, non-invasive tools were not procured or deployed, especially in circumstances where risks are well known.

She says, “The failure to prioritise critical basic operational safeguards, while such significant financial mismanagement persists, reflects a fundamental breakdown in leadership, judgment and fiduciary responsibility by those entrusted to safeguard our children. The safety of vulnerable children cannot be compromised by administrative neglect, poor governance and general apathy. This is not merely an isolated incident, it is symptomatic of a Board that has demonstrably failed in its mandate to protect and serve.”

She insists the continued tenure of the Board undermines public trust and that the call for call for the revocation of their appointments is “neither political nor personal, it is necessary.”

On Sunday, the Minister called on the Board to resign, citing financial mismanagement.

The Board’s members have stated that they will not do so, leading Ms Mohit to now urge citizens to call upon the President to revoke their appointments.
