Financial issues faced by the private security industry came in focus as the Ministry of Labour met with the Private Security Services Association.
Labour Minister Leroy Baptiste met with Mr. Carlos Neptune, President of the Private Security Association, Consultant, Mr. Suren Dookie and Members from Allied Security Services to discuss the current concerns and challenges being faced by the Private Security Industry.
Minister Baptiste outlined recommendations that could allay their concerns and also emphasized the need for members of the Association to comply with the Minimum Wage Laws.
The Labour Ministry said it was particularly in relation to the calculation of overtime pay for Unprecepted officers.
The Minister reiterated that workers should not receive below the minimum set out in the Law.
Minister Baptiste committed to developing a framework in consultation with the Private Security Stakeholders to facilitate “the balancing act between Employers’ obligations and workers entitlements.”
