Quick action by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force has led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man and the seizure of a high-powered firearm and ammunition in Laventille.
Police were responding to a report of a shooting on Village Council Street around 5:10 p.m. on Friday, January 30, when they heard several loud explosions coming from a nearby street.
Officers immediately moved to investigate and observed a man running from the area with a bag.
After a short chase, the suspect was detained.
A search of the bag revealed a firearm and a magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition.
The suspect, who is from Morvant, was arrested in connection with the find.
The operation was spearheaded by senior officers including DCP Martin and ACP Hazel.
Investigations are ongoing.
