Youths aged 15 to 29 are the target group for a new mental health support chatline, launched yesterday to aid with mental health challenges.
The text-based hotline comes as recent studies rank suicide as the third leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds worldwide.
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with UNICEF and UWI, has introduced the WhatsApp chatline called U-Matter.
It is operated by 52 trained postgraduate UWI students who serve as listeners. Users can message 763-7336 to access support 24/7.
