Persons are being advised to be aware of a Medical Product Alert from the WHO.
It is for falsified IBRANCE (palbociclib) capsules.
This product is used for the treatment of certain types of breast cancer in adults.
The Health Ministry says the falsified products deliberately misrepresent identity, composition and source, with fake meds detected in Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya and Türkiye.
Tests by the manufacturer also found that the falsified products contained no active pharmaceutical ingredient and must be considered unsafe since their use can lead to treatment failure, the uncontrolled progression of cancer and an increased risk of death.
IBRANCE capsules are registered for use in T&T, and so, the Ministry is advising persons who may be in possession of the drug with certain lot numbers to discontinue use immediately.
