Government Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal says former St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves paid the “ultimate political price” for his criticism of T&T’s government policies.

Dr. Gonsalves was voted out of office yesterday, as a new administration led by Godwin Friday swept to power in a landslide victory.

Dr. Moonilal told Parliament today that Dr. Gonsalves faced political fallout after speaking out against T&T Prime Minister’s actions targeting traffickers.

He warned other CARICOM leaders to take note, saying Caribbean people are fed up with drugs, murder and crime, and expect strong action from their governments.

Dr. Moonilal was contributing to a private Opposition motion reaffirming T&T’s commitment to CARICOM.

He said Trinidad and Tobago is proud to show leadership in confronting narco-terrorism, working alongside the United States, and insisted that the government’s stance has not harmed trade, energy relations or regional security — but has instead strengthened them.
