The Ministry of Defence says lifeguard services will be in place at designated beaches across Trinidad for the Carnival period.

Certified lifeguards will be on duty from February 12 to 18 at north, south and east coast beaches including Maracas, Las Cuevas, Vessigny, Los Iros, Quinam, Toco, Salybia, Manzanilla and Mayaro district beaches such as Church Road, St Ann’s, Beaumont, Plaisance, DeRoze, Rabita and Radix.

The Ministry is urging beachgoers to remain vigilant, follow lifeguards’ instructions, observe warning flags and avoid swimming during rough seas or high tide.

This comes as the Met Service has issued a Hazardous Seas Bulletin, which remains in effect.
