Minister Ernesto Kesar says that Trinidad and Tobago’s century of experience in oil and gas positions the country to lead regional collaboration in the sector.
Kesar, the Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, made the statement during the keynote address at Caribbean Energy Week 2026 in Paramaribo, Suriname.
“For more than a century, oil and gas has dominated the energy landscape of Trinidad and Tobago. Our long experience in oil, natural gas, petrochemicals, LNG, and energy services has helped to build strong institutions, a highly skilled workforce, and a mature industrial base that continues to serve our country and our region,” he said.
“That experience has not come easily. It has been earned through cycles, through challenges, and through constant adaptation. And it is precisely this hard-earned knowledge that Trinidad and Tobago brings to the table today.”
Minister Kesar emphasized that energy collaboration is the key to success, highlighting the rise of Guyana and Suriname as global energy producers.
“Trinidad and Tobago does not see rivalry. We see opportunity. We see partnership. And we see the real possibility of building a stronger, more integrated regional energy architecture that benefits all our people.”
The Energy Ministry stated that Trinidad and Tobago stands ready to collaborate with Caribbean neighbour in shaping a balanced and sustainable energy mix.
